 Be good at it.

If you’re already fluent in English but want to polish your reading and writing skills so you can pursue a career in ECE or CYC, then this pathway is for you! It’s designed to help you meet the English proficiency requirements to enter Douglas College and apply to one of our ECE or CYC programs. Under guidance from ENGU faculty, you’ll get to develop your reading and writing skills in a dedicated course that will focus on ECE/CYC content and vocabulary.

No, this pathway is meant for students who want to build on their English reading and writing skills to meet the College entry requirement and apply to an ECE or CYC program.

While the two pathways prepare students who want to meet the English level necessary to enter Douglas and increase their chance for success in college, they focus on different skill levels.

ENGU is meant for students fluent in speaking and listening in English who want to develop their reading and writing skills.

ELLA is for students who want help developing all four English language skills.

For this specific pathway to ECE or CYC, yes. However, ENGU does offer courses to students who want to enter other programs. It’s still a tuition-free process for domestic students, but you will need to write an English placement test before you register for most ENGU courses.*

* For course ENGU 355, however, students with a “C-” in English Studies 12 or English First Peoples 12 can apply directly to and register into it without requiring any other assessment testing.

Every student’s entry into this pathway will look a bit different. We want to make each student journey a success, so get in touch with us by filling out the form on this page and we will help you get started on your upgrading path.

This pathway is tuition-free for domestic students, but there are still student fees to consider. However, funding assistance may be available. For more information, please reach out to ENGU Pathways Coordinator Chris-Anne by filling out the form on this page.
